Requirements:

Participation: You are expected to have done the reading for each class, and be ready to discuss what you have read.  You are also expected to participate in the listserv discussion for the course.  Every student must contribute at least 6 comments during the semester, 3 of which must come before Spring Break.  Finally, students will be asked to give group presentations on specific topics.
Writing: There will be two papers assigned in the course of the semester, each of which should be 5-7 pages long.  The first one will be due Monday, February 22, at 5 pm.  The second will be due near the end of the semester on a date arranged with me.  In addition there will be a midterm and a final exam.
Evaluation: Grades will be figured roughly on a percentage scale: 20% each for the first paper and the midterm; 25% each for the last paper and the final; and 10% on participation. All late assignments will be downgraded one grade (from for instance B+ to B) for each half day it is late unless you arrange for an extension at least 24 hours before it is due.
