These images appear side by side in the book, The Family of Man, based on Edward Steichen's 1955 exhibit of the same name at the Museum of Modern Art.  The visual parallels and divergences between the two pictures speaks directly to how the book and exhibit sought to establish ideological commonalities and differences between the United States and rest of the world.
